As more and more phones are launched on different Networks such as T-mobile, Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon, from Apple, Samsung, HTC, Motorola, and Blackberry RIM; it’s becoming easier and easier to stay in touch in and out of the gay community. In the Apple App Store there are over 500,000 and on the Android Market there are roughly 400,000 and counting on both markets. One particular app that has a lot of recent attention (to be exact: over 3 million users within over 192 countries) in the Gay Community is Grindr Gay Guy Finder. The app works as a sort of “gaydar,” showing you the nearest gay, bisexual, and transgender users in the area.
Having personally used the free version of the app, it is very easy to use on all three operating systems. The phone allows you to create a profile in which you create a username, upload a photo, your age, height, weight, ethnicity, relationship status, what you are looking for, and if you’d like your Social link as in Facebook or Twitter so users who view your profile can find you online to befriend you.
Some of the security features given in the app are the ability to show or hide your distance from users and an age filter. The app does not have a log-in screen like other apps have, however it goes based off your device. So if your device breaks or gets stolen upon getting a new one, you will have to re-create your profile. The app also allows you to block users that you don’t want contacting you. The free version, however, only allows up to ten blocks with-in a 24 hour period; once you upgrade to the Grindr EXTRA version, you have the options of blocking as many people as you want as well as being able to view as many people in the area as you please.
Grindr EXTRA rates:
one month: $ 4.97
three monts: $ 12.97 (with a 13% discount)
six months: $ 23.97 (with a 20% discount)
One Year: $ 46.97 (with a 21% discount)
**Upon paying for any subscription of Grindr EXTRA, there will also be a check box that will ask if you want your subscription automatically renewed.
I personally liked the app at first because I was able to find gay guys that I was able to befriend in my area, however, after a while it got a bit tiring receiving Dick pics from those Other than the promiscuity that the app brings over all it is worth at least checking out. There have been claims of people meeting each other and falling in “love” or actually starting a relationship.
